Trailer's

We are told the name of the film at the very end of the trailer; the reason why the name is given at the end of the trailer is because the rest of the trailer engages the audience’s attention and keeps them hooked all the way through before they reveal the name of the film. There isn’t any big give a way’s as to who is starring in the film but we are presented with a short list of credits in the last few moments of the trailer, but audience’s might recognise a couple of the cast member that were featured in the trailer. Drew Barrymore, Courtney Cox and Neve Campbell were all quite well known in the 90’s so audiences might be aware of them. We do see the director of the film, Wes Craven, who is well known for his horror films. So people might relate to this and see the film based on their previous enjoyment of seeing his films. A lot of the action we see in this trailer is the stuff leading up to a kill so we don’t actually see anyone getting killed but we do see them being chased and attacked, also we never see a clear shot of the killer which adds to the suspense and mystery of the film. The voice of the person who is delivering the voiceover is quite reminiscent to that of the killer’s voice in the film, its dark, low and mysterious which helps set the tone of the film and creates a scary atmosphere. The speed of the trailer varies throughout the trailer, the beginning of the trailer is quite slow so we hear the dialogue and see what happens then the trailer speeds up while action is screen. I think this done the help create tension we hear a little of the dialogue then see the consequence of what the characters have been saying which helps give a brief overview of how the film will be played out. In the last frame of the trailer we are given the credits which tells us who starring and also gives us the names of the production companies. Dimension films is also shown at the beginging of the trailer.

We are told the name of the film at the beginning and three times more before the trailer ends. This is done to make sure the audience remembers the name of the film and also to create tension as the film is about Halloween and the film is Halloween so the audience knows hoe scary it will be. We are not told who is starring in the film at all in the trailer however one of the cast member’s is quite well known, Donald Pleasance. The action that is in the trailer isn’t quite as fast as in the previous trailer but it does show bits in the trailer. The music is quite slow but does speed up in the action sequences, the music its self is original and now as iconic as the film is. The voiceover given in the trailer is slow as the voice’s main purpose is to help move the trailer along and create a creepy atmosphere. Overall the trailer is quite slow compared to the previous trailer but does have its brief fast action parts. the information we are given in the last frame of the trailer is the name of the film and the company responsible for releasing the film.

Magazine's

One of the first things that you notice about this magazine cover is that the image takes up the whole of the page, so attention of the viewer is solely on the image. The colours used on the cover are mainly red, black and white. These colours symbolise blood, gore and the content that are featured in horror films. Also white and black can be linked to the colours of the killer’s mask. The font used is very bold and stands out from the background. There is a banner at the top of the magazine cover which includes puffs that give information on what is featured within the magazine but they are articles that are not relevant to the cover image. The puff at the bottom of the page is linked to the main cover image. Certain words stand out in this puff such as ‘RETURNS!’ which is in a light blue font where as the majority is in white, so it helps establish the franchise making a comeback into popular culture.

Like with the previous magazine cover one of the first things that you notice about this magazine cover is that the image takes up the whole of the page, so attention is on the image. Many horror film magazine’s have their own and often share very similar identifiable features such as the colours they use their covers. Like with the previous magazine cover this cover uses red, black and white throughout their text. Again this is used to symbolise and emphasis the blood, gore and death that will be present in the film featured on the cover. The font design used in the title is quite specific and unique to the particular magazine. The title of the magazine is called Fangoria so the font has a fang effect to emphasis the title of the magazine. Also the font effect relates to the image used on the cover of the magazine, you can clearly see the young girl shown in the image has fangs so in theory the title, the effect and the image are all linked together. All the puffs and banners are all related to other horror films.

Looking at these two magazine covers have given me a taste of what I should include on my magazine cover. I should have a huge main cover image that will draw in my target audience, I should use colours that are significant and relate to horror and also include banner’s and puffs with stories that have a link to horror in some shape of form.
